Espresso coffee is a rich and flavorful beverage that is loved by many, and while traditionally it is made using an espresso machine, you can still brew a delicious cup of espresso at home without a machine. One of the most popular variations of espresso is using milk, this method of brewing is called cappuccino. Here’s a recipe for how to make espresso coffee without a machine using milk.

Ingredients:

  • 7 grams of freshly ground coffee beans
  • 1 cup of milk
  • A French press or a Moka pot
  • A burr grinder
  • A stovetop
  • A shot glass or demitasse cup

Instructions:

  1. Start by gathering all your equipment. You will need a French press or Moka pot, a burr grinder, a stovetop, and a shot glass or demitasse cup.

  2. Begin by grinding your coffee beans. Make sure to use high-quality, freshly roasted beans and grind them on the finest setting using a burr grinder.

  3. Place the ground coffee in your French press or Moka pot.

  4. Bring a cup of milk to a simmer over medium heat, froth it with a hand frother or a french press plunger to achieve the desired texture.

  5. Start heating water on the stove, bring it to a temperature just before boiling, usually around 200F.

  6. For French press method: place the French press on the stovetop and add the hot water. Gently press down the plunger after 4 minutes.

  7. For Moka pot method: add the hot water to the bottom chamber of the Moka pot. Place the Moka pot on the stovetop and let it simmer until the coffee starts to flow into the top chamber.

  8. Once your espresso is brewed, pour it into the shot glass or demitasse cup.

  9. Pour the frothed milk on top of the espresso, creating a layer of foam.

  10. Sprinkle some cocoa powder or cinnamon on top for a more flavorful experience.

  11. Serve the cappuccino hot and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use freshly roasted, high-quality coffee beans for the best taste.
  • Experiment with different beans and brewing methods to find your perfect cup.
  • The grind size is important when making espresso, it should be very fine.
  • If you don’t have a burr grinder, you can use a blade grinder and grind the beans on the finest setting.
  • The French press method will yield a stronger, more robust espresso with more body, while the Moka pot will produce a milder and sweeter espresso.
