If you’ve ever been disappointed with store-bought hot fudges that are too thin, too sweet, or packed with preservatives, this recipe changes everything. It is rich, luxurious and very easy to make at home. Does this make you like it:

Just 5 simple ingredients: no funky materials or ingredients that cannot be pronounced. Super versatility: Pour over ice cream and stir in coffee (good morning, starting with mocus), drizzle over brownies or eat in a spoonful. There is no judgment here.

Hot Fudge Sauce Ingredients

The ingredients needed to make this homemade hot fudge

Making the best homemade hot fudge starts with simple, high quality ingredients. Each plays an important role in achieving the perfect balance of its thick, sweetness and consistency. This is what you need:

Sweetened Condensed Milk: The secret to its rich, thick texture and the perfect amount of sweetness. Chocolate Chips: Use high quality chocolate chips to create the best flavor! Dark, milk or semi-wheat everything works, depending on your preference. Heavy Cream: This gives hot fudge a sweet, silky smooth consistency. If you want to thin out the hot fudge, you can add heavy cream to make it easier to pour! Butter: A little butter gives your hot fudge sauce a beautiful shiny finish and rich flavor. Vanilla Extract: A dash of pure vanilla extract perfectly complements the chocolate flavor. Remove hot fudge from the heat before stirring the salt. Salt: OK, this does not count as an ingredient as it has salt, but generous pinch deepens the flavor of your hot fudge sauce, so I highly recommend you skip it I won’t!

Pro Tips for the Best Hot Fudge

Use quality chocolate. This recipe is about chocolate, so using high-quality chocolate chips and chopped chocolate makes a huge difference.

Don’t overheat! Chocolate can burn easily, so keep the heat low and stir constantly.

Do you want to make it thinner? Add a more heavy cream splash until you reach the desired consistency.

Hot Fudge FAQ

Is this dairy free?
Certainly you can. Use sweetened condensed milk that is dairy-free (I like this oat milk brand. I usually grab it with Whole Foods), swap the heavy cream for full fat coconut milk, and use the butter to be non-existent Exchange for air butter.

How do I store my homemade hot fudge?
Store in a closed fridge jar for up to 1 month. When ready to use, measure the microwave in 10-second increments and stir between each until it reaches the desired temperature.

Can I use cocoa powder instead of chocolate chips?
Not for this recipe! The chocolate chips give its thick, fud texture. If you don’t have chocolate chips on hand, you can use chopped chocolate instead! Unless you prefer a very sweet hot fudge, I recommend using semi-sweet or dark chocolate.

What provides this hot fudge

This homemade hot fudge is an amazing next level on top of ice cream, but don’t stop there. Drizzle on waffles, pancakes and even strawberries soaked (hello, Valentine’s Day). No matter how much you enjoy it, one thing is for sure. Make this hot fudge and it won’t be bought again in the store.

Happy Hot Fudge Meal, my friends!
