Welcome to Ipoh!
The city is famous for her streets and Cantonese cuisine. Below is a personal guide to restaurants I’ve fallen in love with over the years and, as far as I know, I still maintain the standards. We appreciate the feedback from locals and welcome comments below.
Nga Choi Kai – Bean Sprout Chicken
This is a very famous dish in Ipoh. The smooth Ipoh Kuay Teow, soup or dry, comes with juicy chicken and plump bean sprouts. There are also popular aspects such as chicken legs, gravel, liver and pork meatballs. I recommend Sanma Chicken Rice at https://g.co/kgs/1ak1v2q. The queue is long and it may be best to go during off-peak hours. It’s also good for Take Aways. Other well-known places include Cowan Street Ayam Tauge and Lou Wong.
Kai watches Horu’s fun
This is another popular dish, sometimes confused with bean sprout chicken. They are very similar. For this, Quai Theo is served in a stunning soup of delicious shrimp with chives, shrimp slices and chicken strips. Famous places for this include Loke Wood Kee, Kong Heng Restaurant, Thean Chun (next to Kong Heng), Moon De Moon and Curry Keng.
This is a favorite of the popular dinner sapporo. Fried charcoal dishes include Wattanghor, Moonlight Holphant (E-Kong Hol), and Hocking Mee. Tuckkey (with branches in KL and Singapore) is famous for this. All of these are very suitable for takeout and can be grabbed for dinner.
White coffee, Chi Chong Hwang, etc.
Ipoh’s white coffee has a unique aroma. It is usually eaten for breakfast and accompanied by Ching Chong’s enjoyment, curry puffs, kaya toast, and more. Older coffee shops in the original town are famous for older coffee shops like Yuan Shan and Sin Yin Loong, but are usually crowded. People at Nextgen have opened SwankyCafes, offering excellent coffee and CCF in a comfortable air-conditioned setting. I recommend Red Mountain Sin Yin Loong. There are many cafes to try. IPOH has something very unique. See this link https://www.traveloka.com/en-my/explore/destination/the-best-white-coffee-in-ipoh/341654
Cantonese ZI Chardish
Ipoh is famous for its unique, tasty, affordable Cantonese jar dishes. There are many good restaurants to choose from. Our favorite is to publish our seafood restaurant at https://goo.gl/maps/kzuu6ljxvs8lffxv5. Try steamed chicken in ginger sauce.
Other favorites include Sun Mar Poh (https://g.co/kgs/ublg4ub), sin hup kee, and more.
