A versatile seasoning blend. A simple and versatile blend of spices can be pre-mixed and kept in the pantry. I like mine with a spice grinder with whole grain spices, but it also works with a shaker with pre-spiced spices.

Jump:
I like to prepare seasoning blends in the pantry as a grab-and-go flavor to add to my meals. This blend is one of my favorites. A simple combination of salt, pepper (S), garlic and onions. It comes with just about everything from meat to vegetables, and adds a little extra flavor that you can’t get from salt and pepper alone.
Device
Whole grain spice grinder (I like the Koonricon vase grinder) or a jar with a shaker lid in advance.
Funnels (contains spices when you add them to a grinder or shaker jar).
material

Floors in front of the shaker
¼ cup (65g) Fine sea salt (or 3/65g tablespoons table salt) ¼ cup (25g) 2 tablespoons ground black pepper (15g) 4 teaspoons cayenne pepper (15g) 2 tablespoons granulated garlic powder (8g) granulated tam powder powder
Whole grains for grinders
¼ cup (65g) Coarse sea salt ¼ cup (25g) Pepper corn (or pepper corn blend) ¼ cup (15g) Crushed red pepper flakes ¼ cup (15g) 2 tablespoons of dried garlic (8g) Dried minced onion
Can you make a versatile seasoning without salt?
absolutely! Just skip the salt. (This is for my uncle Warren and others who are eating low-sodium diets. Or when I’m salted or dried and want to separate the salted from the seasonings.)
How to make a versatile seasoning

Mix the seasonings
Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and stir until thoroughly mixed. If the ground is on the ground, store it in an airtight container (preferably a shaker jar with a sealing lid) for up to one year. The whole grain version lasts for years with a spice grinder. (A funnel is useful for putting spices anywhere in a jar or grinder.
What should you season with a versatile seasoning?
Anything that is seasoned with salt and pepper would like a little more flavor. The only thing I don’t use it is steak. So I want a simple flavor of salt and pepper (and perhaps salt, pepper and garlic). Other than that, I use it for everything. For a week after I took it into root, I used it with chicken breast, burgers, baby red potatoes and steamed broccoli. It is a very versatile seasoning.
How to store all-purpose seasonings
Make it with ground spices and keep it in an airtight container and it lasts for a year until the flavor is lost. The grinder version will last even longer. The salt, pepper and red chili flakes remain fresh for a very long time. Garlic and onions lose their flavor after a while, but are better than ground garlic and onion powder.

A funnel helps you put spices in a jar or grinder without spilling them anywhere. Don’t ask how you learned that.

Why use a spice grinder for a comfortable seasoning?
This is the same question as “Why use a pepper grinder?” The answer is because “the black pepper gives you a very fresh view.” The salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and red pepper are finely located. The black pepper flavor comes from volatile oils and aromatics and disappears immediately after grinding. (My recipes recommend fresh ground black peppers for the most part.) If the peppers were a minor player in seasonings, I would be fine in advance. However, I want fresh ground as it is one of the main ingredients in this all-purpose seasoning. I keep a generic seasoning blend in a grinder.
How much do you know about the staged seasonings you are grinding?
I’ll watch it. I usually use generic seasonings when I’m not measuring carefully. If it appears to be seasoned well, I’m fine. That being said, I also measured the grinding speed of my favorite Kuhn Rikon Vase Grinders. I measured 30 grinds to get ½ tsp of seasoning so when I grind a certain amount, count when I grind it.
