If you love apple desserts, you must try these Apple Upside Down Cupcakes. Easy, flavorful, and perfect for family gatherings and holidays.

Why you’ll love this apple cupcake
If you like apple desserts, this is a must-make dish. It starts with a spice mix, but when you add in all the apples, nuts, and spices, it takes it to the next level of deliciousness. These cupcakes look great on the table and are perfect for serving dessert for one person. We’ve always been big fans of upside-down cakes, and the cupcakes are fun to make too.
What type of apples do you use?
I made red space apples using Fuji apples and Honeycrisp. You can use any apple in this recipe, but we always prefer red apples. This recipe is not made with apple pie filling.
Should I use a spiced cake mix?
No, I think you can use any cake mix, but it won’t have the same flavor as using a spiced cake mix. Spice Cake Mix contains all the delicious spices that go well with apples. So if you use a yellow cake mix, it probably won’t taste the same.

topping
1 stick butter or 1/2 cup or 8 tablespoons (melted)1 cup brown sugar1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder2 small applenuts I used pecan nuts
For the topping, melt the butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon on the stove or in the microwave. I heated it in the microwave for about 1 minute. Let’s set it aside. Combine cake mix, eggs, milk, and oil in a mixer. Mix in the grated apple and raisins.
Spray cupcake pans with cooking spray. (I used a large 6-cup saucepan; you can experiment with 12 cups if you like.) Add 1 tablespoon of the brown sugar and butter mixture to the bottom of each cup. Add a tablespoon of chopped nuts and a few peeled apple slices.
Fill the cup about halfway with cupcake mix. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes, checking for doneness, depending on your oven. (If using a 12-cup pan, this should take about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool for about 10 minutes.
Run a knife into the side and lift it out of the mold. If you have any leftover topping in the pan, pour it on top of the cupcakes. Makes 12 large cupcakes or about 25 small cupcakes.
