If you’re looking for a simple breakfast pastry that feels like your favorite coffee shop, this easy cream cheese Danish is it. Using crescent dough instead of puff pastry sheets makes it quick and friendly, but the result is a great cheese offering the flaky golden look and creamy centre you need in Denmark. This is one of the simple breakfast recipes that hit the sweet spot between effort and payoff and will blow your socks off completely!

Are Danes not usually made with puff pastries?

Yes, yes, that’s right. Puff pastry dough is made with flour, water and butter. After that, you will create a layer and unfold it several times and collapse it. When baked, an air pocket is created within the layer to create a light, flake-like pastry. Crescent roll dough is made with similar ingredients and sugar, which is a bit sweet, but has the light, flake-like texture that we all love in Danish and other pastries. This recipe uses crescent roll dough. Honestly, it’s something I had on hand. It turns out to be a little easier and great!

Simple Cream Cheese Ingredients Needed for Denmark

You only need a few basic items. Most of them are probably already on hand.

Crescent Roll Dough – A shortcut to that flaky butter crust of homemade puff pastry cream cheese, softened to room temperature – this gives a smooth cream cheese filling with chunkless granulated sugar – just the right amount of sweetness for a full filling. More Vanilla Extract – Make that perfect drizzle icing on top
