These incredibly easy red wine poached pears make an amazing dessert! I love whipped cream and ice cream. This is good!
These wine poached pear ideas came from brainstorming simple and elegant dinner party desserts for clients we worked for (we created recipes for other business ). We loved these poached pear ideas so instead we specified recipes with inspired flavours. I’m glad that we did and I’m so excited that you’ll make this simple dessert.
I have very similarity to freshly baked pears. This is another great dessert with pears. They work very well with a spoonful of whipped cream, coconut whipped cream (Yum!), or your favorite ice cream. These pears can be made in about 30 minutes and they last in the fridge for up to 4 days, making them the ideal makeup dessert for your next dinner party.
Important ingredients
Pear: I love boss or Bartlett pears for this poaching. Because meat usually touches a little more than other varieties. Any pear works, but harder ones hold better with poaching liquids. Wine: I made pears in the photo using dry red wine, but if you want it, you can substitute dried white wine. Whatever you use, make sure it is something you are willing to drink. For red wine, use the wine varieties used to make sangria, such as Rioja. For white wine, use something dried, fruity, like Sauvignon Blanc. Orange: I love fresh orange juice squeezed into poaching liquids. It adds some sweetness and floral notes. Honey: In addition to the orange flower notebook, I love honey for this recipe. If necessary, agaveenactal or maple syrup can be substituted, but note that the flavor of the poaching liquid changes. Spices: Add cinnamon sticks, cloves and vanilla beans to the poaching liquid by shaving off the seeds. Vanilla bean vanilla extract can be substituted if desired (2-3 tsp).

These simple poached pears are great for dessert! I use red wine as a poaching liquid, and so are white wines. When choosing these pear wines, it doesn’t have to be the best bottle, but definitely choose the one that will make you happy. I go for dried red wines like Rioja, Pinot Noir and Merlot.
6 servings
You will need it
Cut one lemon in half
Three firm pears like Bosc and Bartlett
1 cup of water
1 (750ml) Bottle dried red wine like Pinot Noir or Merlot
1 Orange, a quarter
More than 1/2 cup of honey tastes good
1 Cinnamon Stick
Four Cloves
One piece of vanilla bean, shave off the seeds and half
2 cups of homemade whipped cream
direction
1Set aside a large pot that holds at least 3 quarts. Cut a circle of parchment that fits just inside the pot. Next, make a small hole in the middle of the parchment to make it look like a donut. This is called Cartouche. Later on a poaching liquid to ensure that the pears remain submerged.
2Fill a bowl large enough to match the pears to cold water. Squeeze juice from one lemon into water and pears are ready.
3Peel off the pear and cut in half. Coat them and then immediately put them in a bowl with lemon water to prevent browning.
4Mix a bottle of wine and 1 cup of water in a large pot. Squeeze an orange quarter over the pot before dropping. Add 1/2 cup honey, 1 cinnamon stick, 4 cloves and vanilla beans, shaving the seeds and adding to the pan. Simmer over medium heat.
5Transfer half of the pear to a poaching liquid, place parchment paper on top of the poaching liquid, cook in a very low stew, adjust the heat if necessary. When they poach, they sometimes push down the pears and sink into the liquid.
6Warmly chill with a generous spoonful of whipped cream or ice cream.
Adam and Joan tips
Storage: Store the poached pears in a poaching liquid in an airtight container in the fridge. Up to 4 days. When the pears sit in the liquid, they take on even more flavors, making this a great makeup dessert. When ready, chill or warm in a pot on your stove with poaching liquid. Vanilla: Replace the vanilla beans with 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Nutrition facts are presumption. They could be too expensive as you included poaching fluids in your calculations.
