This flavorful grilled crab legs recipe chooses garlic butter or Cajun sauce and works beautifully with the king of Alaska, snow crab, or dungnes crab.
Grilled crab legs
The grill takes about 10-15 minutes for small legs and 15-20 minutes for large legs. When they start to get much hotter and steamy, you know they’re ready. It’s about the same amount of time you spend making freshly baked crab legs.
Making crab legs on the grill is quick and easy to prepare as most crabs sold at grocery stores are pre-cooked and therefore frozen or thawed.
Crab sauce
Garlic butter sauce and Cajun sauce are the most popular, but there are plenty of other dipping sauces that work with seafood recipes.
Tip – Infuse some extra flavor into that portion of the meat before grilling the exposed body of the crab in half the garlic butter sauce or Cajun sauce.

Recipe Tips
After making countless crab legs on the grill, here are my top tips to keep in mind:
For best results, thaw crab legs in the fridge overnight. They require at least 8 hours and leave them fresh for up to 1-2 days once thawed. When grilling, set the timer to the low end of the proposed range and check for donness early to avoid heating. Check the color of the meat. It must be pearly white and completely opaque. Do not rely on the shell color as it does not accurately reflect the internal temperature. Open the shell using crab crackers, nutcrackers, mallets, or kitchen shears. Add remaining crab meat to dishes such as crab salad, lobster rabio sauce, and lobster cake for a rich, decadent twist. It also works with any of these mimetic crab recipes.
