Sloppy Joe Sandwich

Instant Pot Slappy Joes. Looking for a weekday sloppy Jaws from the Pressure Cooker? Try this recipe. You’ll love it!

Sloppy Joe Sandwich

Jump:

I got this sloppy Joe recipe from Pam Anderson’s perfect recipe for going beyond cookbooks years ago. It’s been one of my go-to weekday recipes ever since. This is the pressure cooked version of PAM recipes. You can cook sloppy jaws in the instant pot and then set it up and forget it while it’s simmering.

Instant Pot Slappy Joe's IngredientsInstant Pot Slappy Joe's Ingredients

material

1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 tablespoon onion, 1/2 tsp fine sea salt 2 lbs 2 lbs lean grind beef (preferably 85% lean-green beef or ringer) 1 tsp 1 tsp ½ tsp fine sea salt salt water ( Or chicken broth) 1 cup ketchup 2 tablespoons of yellow mustard 1 tablespoon of brown sugar (optional) 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce (optional) 1 tablespoon of Frank Red Hot Sauce (optional)

Accompaniment (optional)

Burger Bread (recipes will be enough for the top 8-12 breads) Hot Sauce (I like Frank Red Hot) Pickled Chips

Instructions

Fry the onions in an instant potFry the onions in an instant pot

Fry the onion

Add vegetable oil to the instant pot set and add it to saute mode – high (or medium high heat on a sstovetop PC), heat until the vegetable oil glows. Add the onion and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon salt. Stir in onions from time to time, until the onions start to soften around the edges.

Cook the ground beef in a pot immediatelyCook the ground beef in a pot immediately

Add the ground beef and cook until it loses its pink colour

Sprinkle evenly with garlic flour and ½ tsp of fine sea salt on the ground beef. Add the beef to the pan and cook, stirring and break until the pink colour is lost about 5 minutes.

Ketchup and mustard are instantly layered on top of cooked ground beefKetchup and mustard are instantly layered on top of cooked ground beef

Everything in the pot (but don’t stir ketchup)

Mix ½ cup of water into a pan and rub the bottom with a flat wooden spoon. Pour ketchup on top of the beef and add mustard and brown sugar, (optional) soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce. Don’t stir – we want water at the bottom and ketchup on top so that ketchup does not stick out to the bottom of the pot and burn.

Instant pot sets are high pressure cooked for 10 minutesInstant pot sets are high pressure cooked for 10 minutes

Pressure cooking for 10 minutes with natural pressure release

Lock the lid in the pressure cooker and cook at high pressure for 10 minutes in an instant pot, electric pressure cooker, or stobate top pressure cooker. (Set in the instant pot for 10 minutes using manual, pressure cook, or pressure cooking mode.) After cooking time is over, naturally lower the pressure and allow for about 10 more minutes. (If you’re in a hurry, you can quickly release the remaining pressure after 5 minutes.) Remove the lid and tilt it to avoid hot steam.

Mix the pan and serve

Stir ketchup into the beef until everything is evenly mixed. Place your favorite accompaniment on the side and enjoy it on a burger bread. enjoy!

Alternative

Different ground beef: This recipe serves as written lean ground beef, 85-15 (85% lean) or lean. If you don’t have a little extra fat, the 80-20 works. If you are using regular “ground beef” (usually meaning 73-27 from fat), after cooking the beef, drain the fat from the pan before adding water. Ground Turkey (aka Slutty Jane’s): Ground beef can be replaced with ground turkey. Everything else remains the same. Extra spices: To make the recipe even more fancy, add 1 tablespoon of paprika and 1 teaspoon of onion powder to the garlic powder. Extra Sloppy: If you want Sloppy Pierjaws, add more ketchup. Extra Vegetables: Add cored diced peppers along with onions – red or green peppers are my favorite.

Device

6 quart pressure cooker

Flat wooden spoon

scaling

This recipe can be easily doubled in a 6-quart pressure cooker. Cut all the ingredients in half and they fit in a 3 quart pressure cooker. Cooking time remains the same. No matter how much you spend on the pot, it takes the same amount of time to cook the ground beef.

Storage

The sloppy jaw meat freezes beautifully. This recipe creates approximately 2 quarts. Divide the leftovers into quart-sized containers. Each quart will be the top 4-6 breads, depending on how sloppy you want to get. Cooked, sloppy jaw meat can last in the fridge for several days or in the freezer for up to six months if stored in an airtight container.

Tips and tips

Frozen ground beef: If you have frozen ground beef, you can throw it directly into the pan and continue cooking in saute mode until it thaws and breaks and loses its pink colour. This will take at least 10 minutes. Continue to scrape the outer layer of cooked meat and expose it inside until all the freezing is thawed. Avoid burn warnings – do not stir ketchup! The layers are key – water and ground beef keep the ketchup away from the bottom of the pot.

What to offer with Instant Pot Slappy Joes

As mentioned in the recipe, I want my sloppy jaws on cheap burger bread, pickled chips and some hot sauces scattered over the top. I like to serve sloppy jaws with coleslaw and potato salad, chips or air fryer freeze fries – potato salad, fries fries.
