This Italian Beef Stromboli is the perfect dish to serve at your next game day gathering or Super Bowl party, and it couldn’t be easier to make.

Living in the Chicago area, I have easy access to many Italian beef stands, but here’s an easy way to make it at home and get the same flavor and taste.

All you have to do is get a package of fresh shaved beef steak (it has to be shaved) I buy it from Trader Joe’s, but if you don’t have it nearby, I’ve also seen it in the meat department of many of the grocery stores I run.

The shaved beef is sautéed in olive oil with dry spices and promises to taste just like an authentic Italian beef sandwich.

Stromboli is basically a pizza dough stuffed with meat, cheese, vegetables, and other ingredients. There are many ways to pack it, and the combinations are endless.

My Italian Beef Stromboli has caramelized onions, bell peppers (optional), and a mix of provolone and mozzarella cheese, all rolled into store-bought pizza dough (I also bought it at Trader Joe’s).

The flavors are incredible, the beef shines with the peppers, onions, and cheese, and pairs well with the crispy pizza crust from top to bottom.

I like to serve this with warm giardiniera and sweet peppers. Because that’s how we eat Italian beef sandwiches here. You can eat it with a salad for a complete meal, or treat it as a snack or appetizer for your next party. You can’t go wrong either way.

material

1 pound of fresh shredded beef steak 1 pound of prepared pizza dough, let stand until room temperature 2 large bell peppers, cut into strips Caramelized onions (optional) 2 onions, cooked until golden brown Granulated garlic, oregano, onion powder, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, heart! 8 Mix ounces of shredded mozzarella and provolone, or just one of them Beat 1 egg with 1 tablespoon water and brush the top with sesame seeds for topping.

Instructions

Prepare shaved steak in a sauté pan with a drizzle of olive oil. Add the beef and sprinkle all the spices directly on the beef in the skillet to taste. Don’t overcook as you just want to get rid of the pink color of the meat. Set aside to cool. Sauté the pepper strips in olive oil until soft. Set aside to cool. Roll out the pizza dough into a neat rectangle and spread half of the cheese on the bottom. Add the beef, peppers, and optional caramelized onions, spreading them evenly throughout but leaving a border without sanding around them. Place remaining shredded cheese on top. Carefully roll the stromboli jelly roll style. Place the rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the top and all sides with egg wash, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and make three ventilation holes in the top. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 25 minutes until the top and bottom are nice and golden brown. Ovens vary. Let rest for about 15-20 minutes before slicing. Please enjoy.
