Boiled lo mein noodles are tossed with a super simple sauce consisting of low-salt soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, tahini, and sambal oelek. Serve topped with chilli garlic crisps (for extra spiciness and texture), green onion slices, and toasted sesame seeds.

I love delicious noodle recipes.

To make this spicy garlic sesame noodles, you’ll need:
Lo Mein Noodles – Alternatively, you can substitute dried noodles or thin spaghetti noodles. Vegetable Bouillon – Adds depth to the sauce. Light brown sugar – adds sweetness and balances the saltiness. Boiling water – helps dissolve the sugar and bouillon. Low-sodium soy sauce – If you are gluten-free, substitute low-sodium tamari. Toasted Sesame Oil – Gives this dressing a toasty, warm flavor. Tahini – imparts creaminess and a subtle nutty flavor. Sambal Oelek – Spicy chili garlic paste that adds a delicious heat. You can find it at most major grocery stores. Rice Vinegar – Adds a delicious sour taste. Oil – I use one made specifically for high-temperature cooking. Garlic Paste – I use store-bought grated garlic paste, which helps this recipe come together faster. Ginger Paste – I use store-bought grated ginger paste, which helps this recipe come together faster.
For serving (optional):
Chili Garlic Crunch Green Onion Roasted Sesame

What type of noodles are best for this recipe?
I prefer to use lo mein noodles when making this noodle dish. However, ramen noodles, thin spaghetti, or thin rice noodles will also work. Be sure to read the cooking instructions and adjust the timing for this recipe.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil.

Prepare the sauce:
Measure 1 tablespoon of light brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of vegetable bouillon into a 2-cup liquid measuring cup, then pour in 2 tablespoons of boiling water.

Then whisk well to dissolve.

To this, measure and add 1/3 low-sodium soy sauce, 2 tablespoons each of toasted sesame oil and tahini, 1 tablespoon of sambal orekhi, and 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of rice vinegar.

Whisk well to combine and set aside.

Measure out 2 teaspoons olive oil, 1 tablespoon garlic paste, and 1 teaspoon ginger paste into a large skillet or wok and heat over medium heat.

Once it boils, stir and simmer for about 1 minute.

Add dried noodles to boiling water and cook according to package instructions. Most lo mein noodles take 3-4 minutes.
Stir the sauce briefly and then pour it into the pot along with the ginger and garlic. Stir and simmer for 4 minutes, then remove from heat.

Once the noodles are cooked, drain them and add them to the sauce.

Mix well to coat the noodles.

Transfer the saucy noodles to a plate or individual bowls and sprinkle with chili garlic crunch, green onions, and toasted sesame seeds.

Main dish without meat! Or, bulk it up by adding your favorite protein, like cooked shrimp, chicken, or tofu.
