If you’re a regular visitor to the food blog, you may have noticed that I’ve been to a blueberry vendor a little recently! That’s because I bought 10 pounds of freshly picked organic blueberries last summer. Many of them quickly went into the freezer and I had forgotten them altogether up until now.
So, in addition to this blueberry iced tea, I also created a recipe for blueberry oatmeal bar, blueberry martini and blueberry simple syrup (used in this iced tea recipe).

Why I Love Blueberry Iced Tea
Flavorous Explosion: Homemade blueberry syrup, made from fresh blueberry juice and enthusiastic lemon juice, balances the sweet and tart flavors beautifully. Ultra Refreshing: Blueberry Iced Tea is perfect for relaxing on hot summer days while rinsing in the sun. Customizable: If you want sweeter or extra lemon juice for a punchy citrus flavor, add a blueberry simple syrup.

Black Tea Bag: Assam and Darjeeling Tea are the best. Loose leaf tea works well too! Generally, one cup of loose leaf tea is used in every tea bag, which is equal to six teaspoons (or two tablespoons) of this recipe. Distort the soaked tea through a fine mesh strainer or use a mesh or ceramic injector to slowly add tea. Green or white tea can also be used. Blueberry Simple Syrup: You can buy a simple syrup with flavor, but my recipe for blueberry syrup is really simple – all you need is boiled fresh or frozen blueberries, sugar and water blueberry juice. (It’s also a great ingredient for cocktails like my blueberry martini!) Fresh Lemon: Use freshly squeezed lemon juice and avoid the bitter, artificial bottles of lemon juice from the grocery store. One large lemon produces about 4 cups (¼ cup) of lemon juice. I love serving blueberry iced tea with fresh lemon slices on the rim! Fresh Mint Leaves (Optional): Mint is optional, but it really complements the natural flavor of the fruit! Fresh basil is also delicious.

How to make it
In a medium pot, bring 6 cups of water to a boil over medium heat. Remove from the sudden tea bag for 5 minutes.

Throw away the tea bag and pour the brewed tea into a half-gallon pitcher. Mix blueberry syrup and lemon juice and refrigerate until chilled.

3. Serve lemon slices and fresh mint leaves on ice.

Top tip
Don’t soak your tea. Remove the tea bag from the water immediately after 5 minutes. Instead, you can now soak the tea to make it bitter and more acidic. Loose leaf tea. If you want to use loose leaf tea, use 1 teaspoon of tea leaves instead of each tea bag. Distort the soaked tea with a fine mesh sieve, or use a mesh or ceramic tea injector. Let the tea cool completely. This blueberry tea is made from hot water, so it takes hours to completely cool in the fridge. Your patience will be rewarded with a crisp, cold glass of refreshing iced tea! Customize it. Add a little more tea to get a stronger flavor and an extra caffeine boost. Alternatively, choose a completely different tea and make a white or green iced tea. Add lemon juice or lemon zest to add more tarts or use blueberry syrup to make it sweeter. Cold brew. In this recipe, you use hot water to soak the tea. However, you can also use the Cold Brew Method. To do this, use cold water (do not boil) and soak the tea in the fridge for 6-12 hours before stirring the blueberry syrup and lemon juice. Caffeine-free. Use herbal tea to make caffeine-free iced tea. Choose your favorite flavor. Peach or lemon herbal tea is my favorite of caffeinated homemade iced tea. Scale up or down. Create more servings using the serving feature of recipe cards. Cut the recipe in half for a quart pitcher or double it to make a gallon of iced tea for a large crowd. Make a blueberry iced tea cocktail! Stir a shot of plain, lemon or blueberry vodka in each glass of blueberry iced tea for an adult-only drink perfect for summer happy hour! Storage. Blueberry iced tea is made with fresh fruit juice and can only be stored in a covered refrigerator for up to 4 days. But I don’t think it will last long!
