If you love hand pies, this is a great addition to your list. Lots of hamburgers, sausages, and seasonings!
❤️Why I love this recipe
We love hand pies, and this one is a real winner! The combination of flaky crust and meat goes so well together. I didn’t feel the need to dip these in anything, but a little hot sauce is a nice addition. You can also make a sauce with this recipe if you would like to add it. It will work!
swap
If you like, you can replace the ground beef with ground turkey, but then add more seasoning to give the turkey a nice flavor. You can also use onion powder in place of onions if you prefer. We love making this pie crust, but if you’re short on time, you can easily make it by simply purchasing ready-made rolled-out pie crust.

⭐Tips
You can make pie circles any size you want. If you want your hand pie to be larger, use larger circles, and if you want this to be more like an appetizer, use smaller circles.

cajun hand pie
The combination of crust and meat goes really well together. These can be a main dish or an appetizer.
Pie filling ingredients:
1/2 lb Ground beef1/2 lb pork sausage1/4 cup onion chopped1/4 cup sweet pepper chopped1/4 cup celery chopped1 teaspoon 1 clove of minced or fresh garlic chopped1 teaspoon cajun seasoning we used our recipe2 teaspoon flour
Dough ingredients for making homemade puff pastry:
2 cup all-purpose flour2/3 cup cold shortening we use crisco3/4 cup ice water
ingredients of egg fluid
1 egg1 tablespoon of milk
Combine beef, sausage, onion, bell pepper, and celery in a skillet on the stove. Sprinkle with garlic, Cajun seasoning, and flour.
Brown all the ingredients, remove the pan and let the mixture cool.
Make the pie crust using the recipe below. Alternatively, you can use two 9-inch pieces of store-bought puff pastry. Add a few tablespoons of meat mixture to each round of dough. Fold it and crimp it with a fork.
You can also brush each pie with egg wash, but this is optional. Spray a baking sheet and bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Depending on the size, you can make about 8 to 10 pieces.
How to make pie dough
Cut the shortening into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add the ice water to the flour mixture and stir in a bowl until it forms a ball. Chill the dough, uncovered, in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Remove and roll out to about 1/8 inch thick. Place whatever you need, such as a bowl or saucer, on top of the dough and cut out a circle about 6 inches.
Fry in oil at 350 degrees for about 3 minutes on each side. You can also freeze them before or after cooking.
