Why you’ll love this Oreo Ball recipe

We all want to have a recipe or two in our pocket that looks impressive but is actually quick and easy to make. Oreo truffle balls are here! That’s right, these are no-bake desserts that can be made with any flavor of Oreo cookies, cream cheese, and melted chocolate (or candy coating). You can make them ahead of time and store them in the freezer (or refrigerator) for ready-made desserts, treats for neighbors, or take-home snacks.

Ingredients notes for no-bake Oreo cheesecake balls

You only need 3 ingredients to make these Oreo balls.

Oreo Cookies – I used the original regular Oreos in this recipe, but you can customize this recipe by changing the flavor of the Oreo cookies you use. Golden Oreo and Mint Oreo are so delicious! Try out all the fun flavors Oreo has to offer. (Be careful not to use double…you’ll end up with less strong Oreo balls.) Cream Cheese (room temperature) – I prefer to use Philadelphia cream cheese. Because it is the tangyest cream cheese on the market and most people know it is widely available. That means your finished product will perfectly match mine. Chocolate/Candy Coating – Melted baker’s chocolate (semi-sweet, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate chips, any kind!) works well for coating the truffle balls. But if you can find it, candy coatings are just as effective, more forgiving, and usually a little less expensive. Use whatever you find! Sprinkles – Optional, but kids will love helping decorate these.

How to make no-bake Oreo cheesecake balls

To make Oreo balls, simply mix, shape, soak, and refrigerate. For recipe details, see the printable recipe card below. Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you can expect when making these no-bake treats.

Step 1: Crush the Oreos

Place Oreo cookies between two sheets of parchment paper or a Ziploc bag, remove air, and seal. Use a rolling pin to break up the Oreos into small pieces.

Pro tip: Pulsing in a food processor also works well to get very fine cookie flour.

Step 2: Mix cream cheese and crushed Oreos.

Using an electric hand mixer or stand mixer, mix softened cream cheese and crushed Oreo cookies until well combined.

Step 3: Form the mixture into balls.

Using a small cookie scoop (this makes each cookie even and speeds up the process) or a rounded tablespoon, shape the cream cheese mixture into 48 (1-inch) balls. Freeze for 10 minutes to firm up slightly.

Step 4: Dip Oreo balls in melted chocolate

Dip Oreo balls in melted chocolate and place in a single layer on a wax paper-lined baking sheet or shallow dish. If desired, immediately decorate with sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet.

Step 5: Refrigerate

Refrigerate for 1 hour or until chocolate is set before serving.

You don’t need anything special to make these no-bake Oreo cheesecake balls. A few simple kitchen tools will make the process go smoothly.

Baking sheet – perfect for holding Oreo balls as they cool before dipping in chocolate. Hand mixer or stand mixer – helps blend the cream cheese and Oreo crumbs into a smooth and creamy mixture. Rolling pin – An easy way to crush Oreo cookies if you don’t have a food processor. Cookie scoop – Makes it easier to divide the mixture into evenly sized balls. Parchment paper – prevents Oreo balls from sticking and makes cleaning easier.

tips for success

These no-bake Oreo cheesecake balls are easy to make, but with a few simple tips you can ensure they’re smooth, clean, and delicious every time.

Use regular Oreos instead of Double Stuff. Excess filling can make the mixture too soft and difficult to shape into balls. Work quickly when soaking. It’s easiest to coat Oreo balls in chocolate while they’re cool and hard. Shake off excess chocolate. After soaking, tap the sides of the bowl with a fork to remove excess chocolate and create a smooth finish. Add the toppings before the chocolate hardens. If you’re decorating with Oreo crumbs, sprinkles, or chocolate, do it right away so everything sticks together. Keep cool until ready to eat. These taste best straight from the fridge and hold their shape better when stored cold. Dipping is easy using a fork. A fork will make it easier to lift the Oreo balls out of the melted chocolate while shaking off any excess coating. A small cookie scoop makes it easier to create uniform truffle shapes. Use a small cookie scoop to roll by hand. Alternatively, a round tablespoon will also work. Melt the chocolate: You don’t need a double boiler for this. Melt the chocolate in the microwave for about 30 seconds, stirring each time until smooth. If it feels too thick, mix in a teaspoon or so of vegetable oil to loosen it and make it easier to soak.

What to Serve with No-Bake Oreo Cheesecake Balls

These Oreo Cheesecake Balls have a rich, chocolatey flavor that pairs well with light fruity desserts or creamy treats that balance the sweetness. Also perfect for dessert platters for parties, holidays, or just a casual snack.

Storage method

Once the Oreo cheesecake balls are completely set, store them in an airtight container or separate them into small zip-top bags. If stored in the refrigerator, it will stay fresh for about two weeks. Make sure it’s tightly sealed to prevent refrigerator odors from lingering or drying out.

How to Freeze: If you want to make ahead, it also freezes very well. First, place in a single layer until solidified, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container. Can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator for a few hours before eating, so it becomes soft and creamy again.

FAQ

Can I use fresh cream instead of cream cheese?

No, whipped cream cheese is not the same. For best results, be sure to use an 8-ounce block of cream cheese. Don’t forget to leave it to soften.

Why do Oreo balls look oily?

If you leave it at room temperature for too long, the cream cheese filling will start to crumble and the oils in the cream cheese may separate a little. Just put it back in the fridge to solidify again.

Can Oreo balls be frozen?

yes! If you want to store it for later use, you can store it in an airtight freezer-safe container or bag for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight.

variations

These Oreo Cheesecake Balls are easy to customize, so you can change the flavor and coating depending on what you have on hand or what you want to eat.

Use different Oreo flavors – Try Golden Oreos, Mint Oreos, or Peanut Butter Oreos for a fun twist without changing the basic recipe. Vary the coating – Instead of classic chocolate, use white chocolate, dark chocolate, or a mixture of both to change the look and flavor. Add mix-ins – Mix mini chocolate chips, crushed candy, or sprinkles into the filling for extra texture and sweetness. Make it holiday themed – Use colored melting chocolate and festive sprinkles for a Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or Halloween version. Add a edible surprise – Push mini peanut butter cups or chocolate pieces into the center then roll to create a hidden surprise in every bite.
