Canning your salsa is a great way to enjoy summer tomatoes. Plus, there’s salsa in winter!

Homemade canned salsa

Also, if you’re going to enjoy canned tomatoes, we love our red tomato jam!

❤️Why should you like this recipe

We love salsa and making it ourselves means we can make the way we like. Anything you like can make this hot, gentle or sweet. This is a good basic recipe and we love it. Plus, I found it easy to create. This is always an extra bonus. I love adding this delicious salsa to all the recipes you enjoy with the salsa. You can add what you like and rule out what you haven’t. This recipe is very versatile.

Key Materials

Fresh red tomatoes in your garden – This is a must-see if you grow fresh tomatoes every summer. We like them to be pretty ripe, but if you find them, they’ll cut out the rotten parts.

Green peppers love green peppers. If you are not a fan, you can always rule them out.

Chop Onion – adds a great flavour. I only used white onions, but you can use whatever you like.

Tomato paste – this is a must-see.

White vinegar – helps to store it for canned food.

Garlic – Amazing seasoning

Jalapenos – Chop and remove seeds if you make mild salsa

Spices and Sugar – These are versatile, but the ones from this recipe are our favorites.

You need ceequipment

Jar with Lid – This recipe makes 1.5 pints of tomato jam. Make sure your jar is clean. It can be easily sterilized by running through the dishwasher.

Canned boiling water with rack – A can of boiling water has a rack to hold a lid and jar. A rack is necessary to remove the jar from the bottom of the jar during the canning process. This will ensure there are no cracks and water circulates under the bottle.

Canned tongs – these will be needed to remove the jar from the water bath.

Canning Funnell – This makes filling the jar much easier, as the tomato mixture gets very hot. But we did it with a ladle.

Bowl – To cut the tomatoes, discard the skin, core and pot and mix the tomato ingredients for cooking.

Tip

You can double or triple this recipe. It’s very versatile. This recipe made 8 pints.

Recipe variations:

You can use more or less all spices. You can rule out jalapeños, but you can add another 1/2 cup of chopped green pepper or add chili pepper.

What we offer:

This recipe is perfect for dishes used in salsas. I love this chicken tortilla chip casserole. This is one of our most popular recipes. It can be served with Mexican rice.
