Homemade garlic bread should never be boring. This gives me a lot of time. It’s buttery, cheap, packed with real garlic flavor, and baked until crisp and golden. Starting with store-bought French breads, add a bold, balanced homemade garlic spread (we did more than we could count!). That’s all the branded garlic bread hopes it can be, and the perfect companion for the best lasagna and spaghetti and meatballs in the world!

Ingredients needed for this simple garlic bread recipe
Here’s what you need to make the best garlic bread recipes using simple ingredients that can be grabbed at any grocery store:
French Bread – The standard breads for French Bread in the bakery section are perfect, but Italian bread, ciabatta or baguette also work. Salt Butter – The soft butter spreads easily and brings a rich, salty base to the garlic butter mixture. Chop Garlic – Use fresh garlic cloves to taste the strongest flavor, or try roasted garlic for a soft garlic bread experience. Garlic Powder – Just a pinch gives its deep toast garlic flavour. Salt and black pepper – the season for balance. Parsley – freeze-dried pieces work well, but fresh chopped parsley or fresh basil can add brightness. Parmesan cheese – finely grated for its salty, nut boost. Shredded Cheddar Cheese – Adds sharpness and helps melt (no, that’s not a word).
Variations
This is a versatile recipe, so feel free to make it yourself.
Swap Cheddar for mozzarella cheese and gooeyer into a more traditional cheese-like garlic bread. Use unsalted butter and if it’s something you have on hand, add a pinch of salt. If you need heat, add red chili flakes to the spread. If you don’t have dairy products, try spreading olive oil instead of butter. Sprinkle with fresh rosemary for a rustic twist. For a softer garlic bread, wrap in plastic wrap and foil and bake over medium heat instead of baking.

How to make garlic bread
This may be the easiest recipe for the best garlic bread on the planet. Care should be taken to avoid burning the bread under the broiler. For more information on the complete recipes that include ingredient measurements, see the printable recipe cards below. Here’s what you’ll expect when making this simple garlic bread recipe:
1. Make garlic butter
Place butter, garlic, garlic flour, freshly chopped parsley, salt and black pepper in a small bowl and stir together until well mixed.
Also stir both cheese.

Pro Tip: I love cheese and garlic bread. That’s why I added a healthy half cup to this recipe. However, if the cheese isn’t yours, you can definitely skip it.
2. Cut the French bread in half and spread the garlic butter on the bread
Cut the French bread in half lengthwise. Spread the garlic butter mixture generously on the bread and spread evenly as you go.

Pro Tip: Don’t want to use French bread? no problem! You can use almost any bread as long as the bread is crispy. Two major alternatives are Ciabatta or Baguette. In a pinch, I spread this over a regular sliced bread.
3. Broil – be careful about that
Place the bread on a foil-lined baking sheet and bake for 3-5 minutes or until the bread is crispy and frothed with a golden brown color.
Pro tip: You may have to move the bread to bake the pan evenly. Get close to it – don’t leave. Broiler can burn your bread immediately.
Let cool for 5 minutes, then slice into 12 thin strips on each side and serve warm.
My bread isn’t crispy and I want it to crispy. what do i do?
I have noticed that several store-bought garlic bread French bread and “craftsman” types of bread are completely wrapped in plastic, neatly placed in paper bags, softening the previously crisp edges. If you fall into this camp, I’ve covered you! Bake bread alone will not give you crispy edges. Here’s how to fix this issue:
Slice the bread in half lengthwise and keep the bread together. Polish the crust with slightly melted butter or olive oil. Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes or until the edges are crispy enough to like. Next, open the already cut bread, spread generously with garlic butter and bake as the recipe states. Finished! Get the perfect garlic bread that is soft inside and has their delicious crispy edges.
What to serve with garlic bread
Garlic bread is a humble side dish that goes mainly with pasta and Italian cuisine. In addition to the aforementioned spaghetti served with lasagna and meatballs, here are some of my other favorites that I serve along with my garlic bread.
Garlic bread storage
Garlic bread is best stored at room temperature and will remain fresh for 3-5 days.
Freezing is a good option if you want to keep it longer. To freeze, wrap the bread in aluminum foil and place it in a safe airtight bag in the freezer. The bread will remain fresh in the freezer for 2-3 months.
How do I reheat garlic bread?
Reheat in a 350°F oven for about 10-15 minutes or fry for 3-5 minutes to back up.
Can I make it in advance?
Completely. Prepare the garlic butter mixture and spread it on bread. Cover and refrigerate. When ready, bake or bake.
Can I freeze garlic bread before baking?
yes! After assembly, wrap the wrap, foil and freeze the wrap before baking. When ready, freeze at 375°F until golden and freeze until heated.
