These oven-roasted Honey Sriracha Chicken Wings are a cultural mashup of traditional Vietnamese and Chinese flavors with an American twist.
Perfect as a party appetizer to highlight cultural diversity, or as a delicious flavorful side dish.
If you like sweet and spicy, we recommend oven-roasted chicken wings.
This recipe starts with a flavorful marinade based on Chinese five spices, then adds chopped lemongrass and fish sauce for Southeast Asian/Vietnamese elements.
Once baked, brush the feathers with the brush sriracha mixture to give them a glossy finish. It’s packed with flavor and I absolutely love this sticky sweet and spicy glaze.

What is Sriracha sauce?
Although a staple at Asian restaurants, the iconic Sriracha Rooster Sauce we all know and love is actually an American product made right here in California.
Sriracha is a very popular chili sauce from Huy Fong Foods’ most popular brand. It is mainly made from a puree of red chili pepper, vinegar, garlic, sugar and salt. The resulting flavor is spicy, tangy, slightly sweet, and garlicky.
In Vietnamese cuisine in the United States, it is famous as a chili sauce that is enjoyed with pho (Vietnamese beef noodle soup).
This baked chicken wing recipe has a signature garlicky, spicy flavor that pairs well with sweet honey.
what you need
To make this fusion baked wing appetizer, gather the following ingredients.
Chicken: I like to use wing flats, but you can also use a combination of flats and drumlets. Aroma: Chopped lemongrass (optional) and garlic. I’m using garlic powder here, but you can also use fresh minced garlic. Seasonings: Chinese rice wine (optional but recommended), five-spice powder, ground black pepper, soy sauce, fish sauce, honey, Sriracha. Glaze: A final brush of Sriracha and honey creates a gooey, sweet and spicy glaze.

How to make honey sriracha wings
Step 1: Marinate the chicken
Mix all seasonings in a large bowl. Adjust seasoning as needed and add chicken. Mix evenly to coat. For best results, marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or overnight in the refrigerator.
Step 2: Preheat and bake
Preheat oven to 400°F. Spread the wings in a single layer on a wire rack over a baking sheet. Bake for 40 minutes, turning halfway through.
Step 3: Prepare the glaze
Combine Sriracha and honey in a small bowl and mix well.
Step 4: Grill and finish
Brush the wings with the glaze and bake (about 2 minutes at 400°F). Bake until golden brown. Flip and repeat. Transfer to a plate and enjoy.

FAQ
Can I use chicken breast or thighs?
If you prefer a boneless option, this recipe is easy to adapt. Cut chicken breasts or thighs into 1-1.5 inch chunks and use the exact same marinade.
Boneless chicken cooks much faster than bone-in wing flats, so bake it at 400°F for a short time to keep the meat from drying out. For lean chicken breasts, bake for about 15 minutes total, then baste with glaze. If using chicken thighs, bake for about 20 minutes total before glazing and baking.
Can it be made in an air fryer?
Yes, you can skip the oven, especially if you are making a small amount, such as half a recipe.
Due to the limited space in the air fryer, lower temperatures and shorter cooking times must be used.
Place the marinated wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer (work in batches if necessary). Air fry at 380°F for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through. Brush on the Sriracha glaze and bake for an additional 2 minutes until the glaze reaches your desired caramel color.
