Living a good portion of my life in Southern California made me a salsa snob. I tasted lots of great salsa recipes. This homemade Pico de Garo recipe is my favorite way to make salsa. It is one of the easiest recipes and suits all the Mexican dishes you can think of.

Pico de Garo ingredients
Fresh tomatoes: Use fresh and ripe tomatoes. You can see that fresh plum or roma tomatoes have the best flavor. Pepper: Serrano Pepper is a spicy addition to this Pico de Garo. If you want something with less heat, choose jalapeño. Onion: I like the white onions that are the best for this recipe, but you can also use red onions. Fresh garlic Fresh chopped coriander Fresh lime juice Olive oil… not photographed cucumber…optional, not drawn.

The best pico de gallo
The great thing about making fresh salsa is that it’s so easy. The only step is to cut everything out, add it to a bowl and mix it together.
Step 1: Pepper + Onion
Dice with peppers, onions and garlic. Combine with salt and lime juice. Please put it aside. Reduce the onions if necessary.
Remove seeds and white membranes from the peppers and make a less spicy salsa.

Step 2: Tomato
Dice tomatoes. Remove the seeds from the tomatoes and dice them into small pieces.

Step 3: Add the tomatoes and then add the coriander
Add the diced tomatoes and chopped cilantro to the bowl. Add a little salt and pepper. Also add a small amount of olive oil.


Step 4: Mix together
Mix all the ingredients together. Adjust the seasonings with salt and pepper if necessary. Chill with tortilla chips or your favorite Mexican dish or serve at room temperature.
